The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released a final environmental assessment and proposed finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for the operation of the Demonstration of Microreactor Experiments (DOME) test bed at Idaho National Laboratory (INL). DOME would provide private industry with a safe, reliable, and affordable location to test their microreactor technologies to generate data needed to obtain reactor licensing and commercialization.
DOE just announced conditional commitments to provide high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) to five U.S. nuclear developers to meet their near-term fuel needs. The five companies that received conditional commitments are: •TRISO-X, LLC. •Kairos Power, LLC. •Radiant Industries, Inc. •Westinghouse Electric Company, LLC •TerraPower, LLC.

December 19, 2024 – The Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN) announced today that four companies will be provided vouchers to advance nuclear fuel and technologies. The vouchers provide companies access to the extensive nuclear research capabilities and expertise available across the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory complex. This is the first round of GAIN vouchers awarded for FY 2025.
