GAIN Announces Second Round FY 2026 Nuclear Energy Voucher Recipients

April 1, 2026 DOE’s Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN) program provides the nuclear community with the technical, regulatory, and financial support needed to move innovative nuclear technologies toward commercialization while ensuring the continued, safe, and economic operation of the existing fleet. This is the 2nd round of GAIN vouchers awarded for fiscal year 2026. The businesses selected to receive a GAIN nuclear energy voucher for Round 2 FY 2026 are: Constellation Energy, Kennet Square, PA; NANO Nuclear Energy Inc., New York, NY; and NuCube Energy, Inc. Idaho Falls, ID.

DOE issued a call for proposals from DOE National Laboratories, plants, and sites for the Fiscal Year 2026 TCF Base Core Laboratory Infrastructure for Market Readiness (CLIMR) Lab Call: Commercialization Enabling Topic. Government to unlock advanced nuclear to grow economy

The UK government recently published a first-of-its-kind framework which aims to stimulate private investment in innovative nuclear technologies across the country, providing a clear route to market and support for credible projects to get them off the ground.
In accordance with President Trump’s Executive Orders, Reforming Nuclear Reactor Testing at the Department of Energy and Deploying Advanced Nuclear Reactor Technologies for National Security, DOE issued a Request for Application (RFA) and is seeking qualified U.S. companies to build and operate nuclear fuel production lines using the DOE authorization process to establish a domestic nuclear fuel supply chain for testing new reactors.

Comment Period is Open for DOE Advanced Nuclear Reactor Categorical Exclusion

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE or the Department) is establishing a categorical exclusion for authorization, siting, construction, operation, reauthorization, and decommissioning of advanced nuclear reactors for inclusion in its National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) implementing procedures. DOE is including the categorical exclusion in the component of its NEPA implementing procedures that it maintains outside of the Code of Federal Regulations. The new categorical exclusion is based on the experience of DOE and other Federal agencies, current technologies, regulatory requirements, and accepted industry practice.

GAIN Announces First Round FY 2026 Nuclear Energy Voucher Recipients

December 18, 2026 – TDOE’s Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN) program provides the nuclear community with the technical, regulatory, and financial support needed to move innovative nuclear technologies toward commercialization while ensuring the continued, safe, and economic operation of the existing fleet. GAIN voucher recipients do not receive direct financial awards. Vouchers provide funding to DOE laboratories to help businesses overcome critical technological and commercialization challenges. All awardees are responsible for a minimum 20 percent cost share, which could be an in-kind contribution. This marks the 1st round of GAIN vouchers awarded for fiscal year 2026.
