DESIGN FOR THE FUTURE: The 4th Annual Workshop on International Safeguards & Security by Design

Does your nuclear technology have the potential to change the world? Then, this workshop is for you! Brought to you by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, this
workshop is for U.S. developers of advanced and small modular reactors (A/SMRs) and associated
fuel cycle facilities who plan to export globally. Among its critical topics, you’ll learn:

• Why you should consider safeguards and security early in the design process and how they can
  affect your plan to export;
• How international safeguards and security connect, plus tools and resources that will benefit you;
• Fundamentals of nuclear security as you plan to deploy internationally;
• Security implications for passive safety systems and remote operations;
• Target set and vital area identification methods for A/SMRs to inform physical protection design.

Participants may sign up for a 5th day to learn more about cyber-informed engineering and tour Idaho
National Laboratory’s Controls Laboratory. This is a unique opportunity to explore operational nuclear cyber-physical testbeds and to test your skills in an Industrial Control Systems cyber escape room.
The 4- or 5-day workshop is free; participants are responsible for travel and lodging.
